Crested Cranes coach Majidah Nantanda believes if given enough time to prepare her girls they will be serious contenders for the inaugural CECAFA women's championships due in Kampala next month.

A fortnight ago, the Crested Cranes played their first match in two years when FUFA withdrew from continental women's soccer to reorganise.

"They displayed a very good game but the mental toughness is lacking. We need to give them more time training as a team for tactical aspects," Nantanda said.

Rwanda's national women's team, the She Amavubi, will start a residential camp on Saturday in preparation for the competition.

They will play a friendly match against Tanzania on July 16th at Amahoro Stadium.

FUFA has already received confirmation from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Sudan while they wait to hear from Eritrea, Zanzibar and Djibouti.
