Fred Wekesa was FDC's LC5 candidate for Manafwa district

The former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party candidate for Manafwa district in the 2016 General Elections, Fred Wekesa has defected to the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Wekesa, 40, who visited New Vision offices to announce his defection, noted that he was forced to quit FDC after President Yoweri Museveni appointed a minister from their area.

Mary Gorret Kitutu from Manafwa was appointed State Minister for Environment.

"For 30 years we had never got a minister. Even the recent appointment of ministers from the opposition showed that President Museveni was on the right track," he noted.

Wekesa said appointment of opposition members in the ruling government, is an indication that President Museveni is ready to work with everyone irrespective of their political affiliation to take the country forward.

"I only urge other opposition members to support government programmes to promote development. I am going to mobilize other people in the Bugisu sub-region to join NRM," Wekesa added.
