Friday Omirambe was shot dead as he had dinner with his family.

The Police in Nebbi are investigating circumstances under which a 20-year-old man was shot dead on Tuesday night.

Hamilton Okidi, the officer in charge of criminal investigations, identified the deceased as Friday Omirambe, a resident of Nyakalwal village in Nebbi district.

Police say Omirambe was shot dead by unknown gunmen at around 9pm local time while having dinner with his family at home.

"It's very sad indeed. We lost the young man to unknown gunmen," said Okidi.

For now, the police suspect the mysterious killing could have been a result of a land dispute.

No arrests are said to have been made so far as investigations continue.

"We are determined to get the killers, but the murder of Omirambe could be linked to land wrangles. Police is still to come out with a full report on the murder," said Okidi.

He strongly warned community members against taking the law into their hands, saying that the law would catch up with them. He also advised warring parties to always settle their disputes through police or any other established legal avenues.

Bessie Ajilong, the Nebbi district resident commissioner condemned the act, saying the police should ensure that culprits are brought to book.

"We don't tolerate murderers and any form of criminality, and I hope the culprits will be brought to book."

Residents are now fearful following the deadly incident

James Okello, an area resident, said that as long as the killers remain at large, the community will not be at peace.

"We are not certain about our lives and unless the killers and the weapon used are found, we are not safe."
