Kayihura praised the officer who is now admitted in Mulago Hospital

The Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura together with other Kampala Metropolitan Police commanders visited the scene of Wednesday's incident where a man who attempted to grab a gun from a policeman was shot dead.

Kayihura toured the area around the Mega Standard Supermarket near the Old Taxi Park and spoke to eye witnesses who included taxi drivers and bodaboda riders who have a stage there.

Eyewitnesses told Kayihura the suspect attempted to grab the gun from the policeman and even stabbed him at the neck using a knife before he was shot.

They told Kayihura that the policeman shot twice in the air to scare of the middle aged man who is now being linked to thugs who operate in the area but he did not relent prompting the officer to shoot in self-defence.

Those who operate businesses in the area told Kayihura that gangs freely operate in the area and are putting their lives and those of members of public at risk.

They took the IGP to a building near the park where they claim the suspected thugs reside and requested him to deploy more police officers in the area.

Kayihura praised the officer who is now admitted in Mulago Hospital for being brave and disciplined.

The drivers also told Kayihura that their taxi business was being affected by drivers who park outside the Taxi Park but he told them that it was not the role of Police but that of the city authority to sort out the mess.

He said police would only help KCCA workers during enforcement. Kayihura instructed Police officers to ensure that the lives and properties of the public are safeguarded.
