Edrine Okong gets another chance to test himself against the world's best when he competes in the Junior Open Championship in Scotland.

Okong is due to travel with Uganda Golf Union Development and Competitions representative Oscar Semawere, for the biennial tournament due at the Barassie Golf Club in Kilmarnock, July 11-13.

This will be Okong's third outing for Uganda at the tournament where all golfing nations affiliated to the R&A enter their best under 16 boys and girls golfers. The trip is sponsored by the Royal and Ancient Club of Scotland and African Express Airways.

The event is played over three rounds of stroke play which has a scratch and handicap element to it.

All competitors will play 36 holes with the leading 80 and ties (gross) qualifying to play the third round.

The fifteen year old Mehta Golf Club, Lugazi was picked to represent the country having emerged the best at the All-Africa Junior Golf Championship in Tunisia where Uganda finished 7th out of nine countries.

He returned 337 gross then, over four rounds to finish ahead of Morris Asaba, Herman ‘Deco' Mutebi and Joel Basalaine who were the other representatives at the El Kantoui Golf Course in Sousse, where South Africa emerged champions.

He was also part of the team that was edged by Kenya 13.5-12.5 points in the Victoria Cup early this month.

Team leader Oscar Semawere will on the other hand be among the delegates who will have an opportunity of discussing more golf development in Uganda with Duncan Weir, the R&A Executive Director and other officials during their one week stay.

The Junior Open is a subsidiary event for the prestigious 145th Open to be held at the Royal Troon Golf Club, South Ayrshire, southwest of Glasgow (July 14-17).

The R&A has supported many junior golf development projects and also donated course maintenance equipment to different clubs in the country.
