The Uganda German Cultural Society on Tuesday launched the third Mabarti challenge.

The two-week challenge being sponsored by Sadolin Paints will see 20 artistes draw different art pieces around Kampala. A panel of judges will choose the best art piece, with the winner walking away with a sh1.5m cash prize.

The art pieces will be painted under the theme "the colours of the urban nature".

The public also has a chance to select their best piece. All the public has to do is take selfies on the art piece and post it on their social media accounts with a hash tag. The most posted art piece will win the popularity challenge.

"This is not only a challenge but a forum where artists will express themselves. It is a project that gives the artists an opportunity to say what they want to say to the public through their art," said the UGCS director, Anja Gobel.

"This gives them a lot of responsibilities to express themselves by drawings sites and nature around them and in the city," she added.

Chris Nugent, the managing director of Sadolin Paints, was excited about the new challenge, adding that unlike the last editions, these times, artists will be using water paints that work exactly like oil paint.

"We are promoting nature and environment and an opportunity to use our new water paint. It gives the same results as the oil paint, but it is more environmental friendly," said Nugent.
