Among the major establishments he wants put in place, is the construction of a national museum for the country’s history,

The Jinja district mayor, Majid Batambuze has wooed the Business and Professional Women (BPW) leaders in Africa to establish business ventures in Jinja, and has offered land to those willing to invest.

"We want to redevelop the source of the Nile to attract tourists. We want to set up five star hotels, a water spot, a convention Centre and other amenities that will make tourists want to spend more days in the town. Land is available for those ready to establish such ventures," he said.

Speaking passionately about the nature gifted district, Batambuze said that the concept to position the district as the relief capital for the overcrowded urban city, is already in place and well written, waiting for people to show interest.

Among the major establishments he wants put in place, is the construction of a national museum for the country's history, documenting major events from 1962 to date, in Jinja town to add on the tourist sites in the district.

"Uganda has a very rich history but it has never been documented anywhere. It is quite surprising to find that a few events that are available about the country were documented by foreigners and sold to Ugandans. We need our own museum to tell the true events that shaped our country," Batambuze said.

some of the notable events he mentioned were, the 1966 battle of Mengo hill which resulted into the institution of a new republican constitution which abolished Kingdoms, the 1971 coup d'état commissioned by former president Idi Amin and the 1981-1986 resistance war.

The quiet, serene and ever green district which is located on the Mombasa, Nairobi and Kampala highway and at the shores of Lake Victoria and the banks of River Nile, is surrounded by several breathtaking sceneries and has four islands.

The BPW leaders from 16 countries across Africa and Australia on Saturday took a tour of the district, visiting several tourist sites including the famous Kakira sugar industry and plantation which is part of the Madhvani group of companies.
