Enas Kanter urged them not to ignore academics

Basketballer Enas Kanter who plays in NBA for Oklahoma City Thunder has encouraged young players to focus on their targets to succeed.

Kanter who returned to London after one day inter denominational co-existence awareness visit to Kampala courtesy of Nile Dialogue Platform told students at Galaxy International and Turkish Light Academy to focus on their dreams.

"It doesn't matter where you come from, what sport you play. It is about working hard to achieve what you want. When I was your age, my dream was to play in the NBA but now my dream is to win the championship," Kanter said.

He however, cautioned his admirers not ignore academics for any sport because education always adds value to a sportsperson.

After watching videos of humanitarian activities Kanter appreciated NDP for giving him an opportunity to achieve his other ambition of 'living for others'.

"When you help others, God will help you. So don't live for yourself but rather live for others. With the Junior NBA Africa programme here (in Uganda), hopefully, in future I will return here with two or three NBA players," Kanter said.
