Boxer Edward Kakembo looks to the future

After failing to snatch the WBO African featherweight title, boxer Edward Kakembo has set his eyes on the challenge of defending the African Boxing Union (ABU) featherweight title next month.

Kakembo lost out in his bid to challenge Ghana's Isaac Dogboe in the ABU title in Accra on Saturday.

The Ugandan pugilist attributed technical knockout (TKO) in the 6th round to food poisoning from the West African dish ‘Fufu'.

It was the first loss for Kakembo (11-1, 3 KOs) who beat Waidi 'Skoro' Usman of Nigeria to win the ABU title in Lagos in December.

According to the former national boxer arrangements are being made for him to defend the title in Windhoek, Namibia next month.

"I would have loved to defend my title infront of my fans. Unfortunately Ugandan fight promoters are very poor. I have no option but to venture out" Kakembo said.

"All the same, I have no worries. I am ready to travel to Namibia because I am a fight." He added.

However, for now the boxer has taken a brief time out from training in order to regain more energy.
