If you are in that group that often forgets to sing praises for the main man in his or her life, well, Father's Day is here to offer you a chance to step up.

The third Sunday of June set apart for Father's Day, Sunday Vision brings a special pull-out to celebrate fathers' and father-figures' roles in raising children.

The main story will feature men who have gone beyond the traditional call of duty, of provider and protector, to rise into friends, confidants and nurturers of their children. These men inspire others to break from the mould and embrace the enjoyable side of fatherhood that was previously a mother's realm.

It will also have other stories to stir the mind towards thinking about how you can get more involved in your children's lives.

For that matter, readers who earlier wrote e-mails describing why they celebrate their fathers will win prizes courtesy of a partnership between the paper and MultiChoice Uganda.

Tina Wamala, MultiChoice publicist, said winners of the writing competition will go away with DStv Explora, a decoder that allows owners to control what they view. In other words, Explora viewers can record up to 220 hours of programmes they missed or would like to repeat.

"Every year, mothers are celebrated more than fathers, but we know the role fathers play in our lives. They are traditionally breadwinners and that is why DStv has decided to partner with DStv to honour fathers in a special way and appreciate them with a superior HD decoder, the Explora," said Wamala.

In tandem with Father's Day festivities, Sunday Vision will also feature a photo contest depicting exceptional fathers, courtesy of the Swedish Embassy.

The competition that took place last month was a countrywide photo shoot of fathers that are involved in their children's day-to-day activities and also help their wives with house chores.

This Sunday will therefore feature the top 13 photos whose rationale is to showcase the broad extent of fatherhood beyond traditional roles of provider and protector.

To enjoy a fun-read this Father's Day, get yourself a copy and learn a thing or two about fatherhood.
