Extreme action to spice up national motocross championship

Jun 15, 2016

It is going to be extreme, spectacular and exciting not only with the local competition in all classes but also with renowned South African freestyle rider Nick De Wit in the house.

Don't expect the usual fight for national championship points as the fourth round of the Mountain Dew Motocross Championship takes off at Busiika on June 26.

It is going to be extreme, spectacular and exciting not only with the local competition in all classes but also with renowned South African freestyle rider Nick De Wit in the house.

After a three year absence and having upgraded and improved his technique in the US and Europe, De Wit is back to thrill Ugandan fans with his back flips, somersaults and new tricks he has added since he was here in 2013.

The Ugandan freestylers Michael Ntayiro, Ahmed Tamale, Arthur Blick, Fatuh Kiggundu and Talha Kiggundu will also benefit from his presence as he will train them and equip them with new skills alongside the street bikers.

Addressing a press conference at Lugogo on Wednesday, Arthur Blick one of the organisers said De wit will arrive on June 23 and do a demo the following day at Busiika, before a drive around town with the organisers on June 25 ahead of the event on June 26.

Michael Ntayiro performs a stunt by flying over two cars during a demonstration after a press conference to launch the fourth round of the NMC Championship at Lugogo, June 15 2016.

"Our riders are well prepared for this event and competition is going to be high in all classes because we intend to compete and win the Africa and East African Championship; and we are already heads up because we won the first round in Garuga so we intend to send our full strong squad for the African championship in August in Nairobi," Blick stated.

"This is all about growth and we are trying to be more creative and innovative in the way we approach the sport because we want to make it more exciting in line with Mountain Dew's  extreme experience;  and we encourage everyone to come and enjoy the experience," Mountain Dew's Tracy Kakuru remarked.

FMU Vice president-Motocross Ismail Balinda urged the riders to train hard for the competition as the championship was still stiff in all classes and only the top two riders will represent Uganda at the continental championship.

The event is sponsored by Mountain Dew, Shell Advance, IAA Resolution Health, Safe Solutions, Lato Milk, and Fotogenix.
