The KCCA Act clearly spells out the roles and duties of the division mayors

Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago on Monday met with division mayors at his City Hall offices to harmonise their working relationship with the technical team.

Lukwago said that the purpose of the meeting was for him and the urban authority mayors to come up with clear programs they need to embark on as they carry out duties and responsibilities for the city dwellers.

He revealed the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Act clearly spells out the roles and duties of the division mayors, which he said they will fellow during this five year period.

"Mayors have to carry out duties in compliance with the law, this is basically what we have discussed" he explained.

"Section 35 of the KCCA Act, 2010 spells out the duties and responsibilities of division mayors. They are supposed to carry out duties in their areas like participating in community work, collecting garbage among other issues.

These people have been empty shells in the past but now we should bring them on board," Lukwago said.

He said that the mayors should have a stake in their divisions, especially the community projects meant for the people, they also need to enforce laws affecting their communities, he explained that in the past mayors have been isolated and abandoned.

Last week after taking oath at City Hall, Lukwago met with elected councillors and the technical team led by executive director Jennifer Musisi in order to forge a way forward on how they will manage affairs at City Hall.

Other issues which the mayors discussed with Lukwago were matters of the budget process.
