Masaka Deputy RDC In Trouble Over Assault

Jun 12, 2016

Kalema said that his appeals for Ssekasamba to stop insulting him in Public were futile. He explained that Ssekasamba’s body guard did not control him.

Joseph Ssekasamba, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Masaka, is in trouble for reportedly assaulting Fred Kalema, the NRM Chairperson for Nyendo-Ssenyange division in Masaka Municipality.

Although the incident occurred on Thursday night, it was reported to police on Friday evening.

It occurred at one of the local joints in Masaka town where Kalema had gone to meet two district officials.

It is said that upon arrival Ssekasamba started insulting Kalema accusing him of supporting his rival Peter Ssenkungu, who's the District National Resistance Movement Chairperson.

Kalema said that his appeals for Ssekasamba to stop insulting him in Public were futile. He explained that Ssekasamba's body guard did not control him.

However, in the process, Ssekasamba hit Kalema with a bear bottle. A broken piece cut his foot and bled profusely.

His colleagues rushed him to Masaka Regional Referral hospital for tetanus vaccine and later went to Masaka Police HCIII. A medical report from the unit confirmed the injuries

Kalema later reported the matter to police and a file Msk/MCD/113/2016 opened up for inquiries.

John Crisestom Mwaule, the District Police Commander, confirmed the incident saying they are following up the matter.

However, Ssekasamba denied the accusations saying he did not attack Kalema and declined to say much about the incident.

Police sources said that Ssekasamba has declined to record a statement in response to the matter.

They further explained that already three cases of assault propagated by Ssekasamba have been reported since 2015 and Kalema's case being the most recent.

As a result, a group of youths under Youth for National Salvation has stormed the RDC's office block protesting Ssekasamba's action.

Kabanda David, YNASA Chairperson, said that Kalema needed their support so as to draw attention of the concerned officials to take action against Ssekasamba.

Vincent Birimuye, another member, said they are processing a petition to President Yoweri Museveni demanding for Ssekasamba's transfer for allegedly abusing his office.
