Silverfins Elite Head Coach Rose Roddriguez from the Phillipines believes Uganda can produce more swimming champions with more guidance and focus from the swimmers.Roddriguez who is in the country for a few days is back to tutor Silverfins swimmers over a two year contract and officially starts her program next week. But she gets an opportunity to gauge her swimmers this weekend when they compete in the two-day National Swimming Club Championship at the Kampala International School Pool, June 10-11.

"The swimmers here just need more guidance and more pressure; they have the quality, the potential and just need to be pushed a little more," Roddriguez said after a training session at KISU on Wednesday."And they need to improve on their self-discipline; and every one to realize their potential, but this needs the cooperation of everyone, because I cannot do it alone.

This week we are focusing on preparing for the national championship but the whole training program will begin next week," Roddriguez remarked before praising the people of Uganda."The people are very nice here the reason I decided to come and work,"

Roddriguez comes with over 25 years experience as a swimming program specialist having coached at Ateneo de Davao University, Leyte Sports Academy, and Philippine Center of Excellence for Aquatic Sports among others

Naome Wandera, the club's Communications Secretary said the coach is with the club for the long haul and that she will develop her training program based on what she will deem fit to improve on after the weekend championships.

She will put her expertise to work by developing and strengthening the capacity of Silverfin's coaching programs, ensuring expanded local coaching capacity and foundational swimmer development competencies for long term performance and improvement.

Last month 14 swimmers from the club competed in the Kenya Junior Championships where they won 14 medals at the Makini School in Nairobi.
