Dont forget a play corner with toys for the children

Your children's bedroom is one of the places that you must consider when designing your home because they also need to have a comfortable place to live in.

The designing of your children's bedroom should include furniture on the list where you should consider their age and function of the furniture when choosing what is suitable for them.

"Consulting them on the theme colour which must be bright in this case should not be forgotten because bright colours help in the development of children's sight as they grow" says Citie Wasswa an interior designer and director of Citie homes Limited.

He says that a bed, bedside table and dresser are all essentials in terms of kids' bedrooms sets.

Wasswa says that helpful furniture pieces to consider are a desk, a play table, bookshelves and even a large wardrobe or movable cupboard, with doors and shelves for added storage.

He adds that if your children grow up and need to shift to another bigger bedroom, a platform frame will be good for them in addition to a twin bed in order to create enough breathing space in the room.

However you should not forget a play corner with toys for the children because this makes their bedroom a one stop centre to do whatever they want in one place.

The budget for designing your children's bedroom must be put into consideration because the prices vary from one shop to another.

Joy Katende an interior designer and director of Joy interiors says that before purchasing furniture they should make a floor plan for where the furniture will be placed in the room.

She says that multipurpose furniture can be helpful in smaller rooms because they make more efficient use of the space available.

The children's opinions on how they want their bedroom to look like if they are of age matters because their bedroom should be a place they enjoy being in which will encourage them to keep it tidy and to respect their new furniture.

"A children's bed with built-in shelves on the headboard or even under-bed drawers is ideal for your children and decorating your children's bedroom has no limit so allow yourself to be creative" adds Katende.
