Erias Lukwago has been sworn-in as the Kampala Lord Mayor. At the same function, 26 city councillors also took oath.

Security minister Mary Karooro Okurut who represented the Kampala minister Frank Tumwebaze, handed over instruments of power to Lukwago.

"With mutual respect and recognition of each other's roles, we will be able to build KCCA. My authority will not compromise even an inch on issue of accountability. We shall probe all transactions," Lukwago said.

The function was held at City Hall, the seat of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). KCCA chief executive officer, Jenifer Musisi, her technical team and Kampala MPs attended the ceremony.

Opposition MPs led by Allan Sewanyana (Makindye West), Betty Nambooze (Mukono Municipality) walked away in protest as Karooro was addressing the gathering. The MPs insisted that Karooro was not a minister since President Yoweri Museveni has not appointed a new Cabinet.

President Museveni was in May sworn-in for a fifth term in office and he is yet to appoint cabinet.
