Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) in Uganda has donated 24 modern motor wheel chairs worth sh63m to disabled people in Uganda.

The first give away was launched on June 1, 2016 by the first lady of Turkey Emine Erdogan during her visit at IUIU Kabojja Campus in Wakiso district.

Another bunch of seven machines was handed over to the selected lucky ones by a team of TIKA on Thursday at Mulago Hospital and at the Home of Joy, Wandegeya in Kampala district.

Unlike the usual wheel chairs which are so common with the disabled, these new ones are automatic and operate using a small rechargeable battery.

Halil Ibrahim Basaran TIKA's coordinator in Uganda said that, the new machines have all the good features which can make the life of disabled men and women so easier.

"The major feature of these scooters is that they are automatic functioning by a small battery, I think they will make the beneficiaries movements easier," Basaran said.

According to Basaran, all the beneficiaries of these machines were selected by the authorities at the Ministry of Gender. Basaran said, TIKA is still carrying out this exercise of helping the needy in Uganda and many other contries.
