URA impounded a truck transporting fuel to one of Imaniraguha's fuel stations in April.
KAMPALA - The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) have arrested John Imaniraguha, director of two fuel stations, over smuggling fuel.
Imaniraguha, director of Planet Fuel Station and Fuelex Petrol Station, was being pursued by URA and described as a "fugitive fuel smuggler".
His arrest comes after going into hiding for two months.
He was wanted over the smuggling of fuel into the country after the tax body impounded a truck transporting fuel to one of his fuel stations in April following a tipoff.
URA spokesperson Sarah Banage confirmed the arrest.
"We have arrested him over non-compliance of a number of issues," she said but declined to name the police station where Imaniraguha was being detained.
Sources at URA told New Vision that Imaniraguha was being investigated for, among other things, tax evasion and fuel smuggling.
The source said further that Imaniraguha would be arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court on Thursday and charged with offences related to smuggling.
