Acquitted terrorism suspects re-arrested

The five terrorism suspects who were acquitted yesterday have been re-arrested, the Principal State attorney has told court.

This came after a complaint from a defence lawyer that the freed suspects had disappeared.

High Court judge, Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo on Thursday convicted seven men for carrying out twin bombings which killed 76 people who were watching the 2010 World Cup final in Kampala.

Issa Luyima, was identified as the mastermind of the attacks. His two brothers: Hassan Haruna Luyima and Muzafar Luyima were also among those convicted.

Others convicted of terrorism, murder and attempted murder are Hassan Hussein Agade, Idris Magondu, Habib Suleiman Njoroge, Habib Suleiman Njoroge, Selemani Hijar Nyamandondo and Mohamed Ali Mohamed.

Those acquitted are Abubakari Batemyetto, Omar Awadh Omar, Yahya Suleiman Mbuthia, Mohamed Hamid Suleiman and Dr. Ismael Kalule.
