Golola Talent Acedemy rolls off in Mityana

Golola dream is to spread the initiative to various regions of the country

Kickboxing champion Moses Golola has realised his dream of starting the Golola Talent Academy to train youths from Mityana and surrounding areas saying he is now focused on boxing because it's an Olympic sport.

He was at Mityana ssaza ground where over 20 youths have now been training for a month awaiting the official launch of the project on May 29 when he takes on Kenyan fighter Waina Yina in a non-title middleweight contest.

He is working with Fran Horizon Consultants on the campaign to spread the initiative to various regions of the country.

"My first dream was to get a world title in kickboxing that I attained by beating Romanian Poczo Zoltan in November 2013. The second dream was to look for sponsors to spread the game in the whole country by opening gyms and I have started. I have included other sports too," he said.

He however lost the same title to American Richards Abraham in September 2014.

He said the aim is to groom and open up gyms that will absorb youths in different sports disciplines.

"I am emphasizing boxing first because it's where I also started to master in kickboxing. Boxing experience is essential in many sports like taekwondo, judo, karate, wrestling and other martial arts. I also want to groom the Olympic sports because kickboxing is yet to be there. I want to see many more Ugandans win gold medals at the Olympics in future," Golola noted.

He said he will also promote talents in athletics and football once he identifies good athletes.

Only the boxers in at the Mityana academy will appear in the undercard fights when he takes on Yina.

From Mityana, Golola hopes to shift to Masindi.
