Amuru chairman vows to fight corruption

The Amuru district chairman elect Michael Lakony has promised to unearth the rot in revenue collection as soon as he starts work.

Lakony said a lot of revenue is being collected and misused, citing what he discovered in Pabbo Sub County recently where four types of receipts are used to collect revenue from charcoal burning.

He says, in some areas politicians are actively collecting revenue, which is contrary to their role of being supervisors rather than implementers.

He noted that the district is heavily relying on the central government for funding with the district contributing only 10% of the district's budget.

A total of 17 councilors were sworn in on Monday and of those, four are contesting for speakership.
