UPC to discipline Otunnu over Go-Forward alliance

Osinde stressed that Otunnu abandoned the party during the last elections and in some places fielded candidates contesting against UPC candidates

Former Uganda People's Congress (UPC) president, Dr. Olara Otunnu and other members who allied with 'Go-Forward' political pressure group during the February general polls are to face disciplinary action.

UPC president Jimmy Akena's administration, says they will not be allowed back into the party until they face the disciplinary committee to explain why they defied party principles.

"Otunnu knew fully well that for him to join Go-Forward, he should have sought the mandate of the party through its established organs,"the spokesperson Osinde Orachi said.

Osinde noted that Otunnu left 'The Democratic Alliance' (TDA) and joined Go-Forward where he was appointed Head of the Campaign Force which was wrong.

He added  that Otunnu also went with other members of his administration who stood as independents against UPC's official flag bearers which is in direct contravention of the party's Constitution Article 3.6(1) and (2).

"The Article 3.6(1) and (2) states clearly that standing in opposition to or financing a candidate against a party candidate will result in the loss of membership, and that standing as an "independent" or financing as well as acting as an agent for will result in the same," he added.

Osinde stressed that Otunnu abandoned the party during the last elections and in some places fielded candidates contesting against UPC candidates, which was weird.
