Business of the 9th Parliament ends

May 11, 2016

The swearing in of the 10th parliament will take place from 16th to 18th of May after which the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker will be elected on May 19, 2016.

For the historic 9th Parliament which was the first to be headed by a woman Speaker, Rebecca Kadaga, the journey it started five years ago will come to an end today.

The Parliament director for communications and public affairs Chris Obore has confirmed that the House will be dissolved today.

The swearing in of the 10th Parliament will take place from 16th to 18th of May after which the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker will be elected on May 19, 2016.

Evidenced by the unprecedented number of 8 people who had expressed interest in standing for the Deputy Speaker of the 10th Parliament and the hot contest that has been witnessed between Rebecca Kadaga and Jacob Oulanyah before the party resolved to maintain the status quo, there is a lot of optimism that the 10th Parliament will be even more independent and assertive on matters of national importance as the country moves towards a post-Yoweri Museveni era.
