President Yoweri Museveni has returned the Income Tax Amendment Bill to Parliament for consideration.

MPs last month passed the Bill exempting them from having their allowances taxed.

The development has been confirmed by the Parliament director for communication and public Affairs, Chris Obore.

Obore said the President returned the Bill on Monday.

Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze had earlier made futile attempts to recall the Bill to remove the exemption.

Members of the public including the civil society and religious leaders had appealed to the President not to assent to the Bill.
