Winning the league title is every team's dream but for former champions A-1 Challenge; it is more than that despite tipping off the 2016 season with a 58-44 win over the KIU Rangers at Lugogo on Sunday.

And with almost every National Basketball League team strengthening ahead of the long and hectic season, women side A-1 Challenge is among the sides that have beefed up their side with six new signings.

The 2005 champions have recruited Ruth Meeme, Rachael Nanyonga, Sharon Kukunda, Stella Nanfuka, Susan Amito and Stella Nikuze in what club PRO Carol Kakazi believes will result into a better placing than last year's third place finish.

Former MVP Gloria Kyomugisha is also back with the side alongside other historicals; Elizabeth Bazira, Olivia Mulwana and Victoria Ntale, having lost Maureen Amoding and Sylivia Nakazibwe to other rivals.

"We want to put on a better show; we lost a few players and we had to look for replacements but we also intend to revive our schools' outreach program so these players will help us in our leadership, mentorship and skills project in at least six select schools," Kakazi said.

She is hopping that after talks with a potential sponsor comes to fruitution for the 18 year old club.

A-1 Challenge has also taken on the services of Coach Sam Obol and despite being their first game of the season you could immediately envisage an improvement in approach right from the start.

In the opening game against the Rangers, new recruit Susan Amito turned guns on her former masters scoring 14 points on her debut, with old guard Elizabeth Bazira adding 11 points.

Stella Nikuze, Joanna Birungi and captain Victoria Ondiso added 8 points apiece for A-1 Challenge whose next game is against the same side on Friday.
