Beach soccer: Stomers beat MUBS

May 10, 2016

It is the first time in the last four years that MUBS have failed to make it to the semi-final of the league

Stomers BSC ambushed the defending champions MUBS in the quarterfinals of the National League at Lido Beach and eliminated them 4-2 in Entebbe on Sunday. The two sides met in the finals last year and Stomers lost 7-5 to MUBS.

It is the first time in the last four years that MUBS have failed to make it to the semi-final of the league paving way for St. Lawrence University, Nkumba Select and Real Galacticos BSC to make their cases as favourites to claim the title.

But Stomers BSC coach Adam Kiyemba insists that: "I believe this is our year to win the league. We have consistently played very well as a team and all the departments of the team are still functional".

"Our players like Ibahim Mpegere, Ramadhan Dudu and Lawrence Bakunzi have continued to stand out. They defend very well as well as score goals. I don't see what can stop us," Kiyemba added.

The other semi-final pits seasoned teams Nkumba Select BSC against Real Galacticos BSC in what was last year's third place playoff.

The organisers have rescheduled the match for Saturday May 28 for logistical reasons while the sponsors have widened their individual awards' scope to include golden boot and glove, best coach besides the MVP and Fair Play awards.
