Three injured in village night raids

Mpigi - The Police in Mpigi are hunting for yet unknown assailants who hacked three residents during a night raid in three villages found in Kituntu Sub County, Mpigi district.

The incident happened on Saturday night when bandits armed with pangas and iron bars raided five villages including Kitakyusa, Wattuba, Njeru, Sserubona and Kantiini, all found in Kituntu sub county Mpigi district.

Ben Igama, the officer in charge of Buwama police station, said the attacks that lasted two hours, took place at around 10pm.

Three people were seriously injured with deep cuts on the head, neck and different body parts.

According to Igama, he identified the victims as Ben Ssali and his wife Margret, residents of Kitakyusa and Dr Joseph Bbale of Wattuba village who are still nursing injuries at Nkozi hospital.

According to statements recorded by residents at Buwama police station, the attackers demanded for money and other properties like television sets and radios and the three who were stabbed allegedly refused to comply.

Igama appealed to residents to avail police with information that will read to the arrest of the attackers.

Godfrey Naliima, the councilor representing Kituntu Sub County at Mpigi district local council blamed the increased acts of gambling and drug abuse especially by the unemployed youth who turn on residents and rob them of their property.

"we have a very big population of the youth who are unemployed and they spend most of their time gambling and smoking marijuana. During night they become a problem," Said Naliima.

Charles Kabanda, a resident of Kitakyusa village appealed to police to increase security in the areas through carrying out night patrols so as to curb the vices that have cropped up in the area.
