The 19-yr-old turned his sexual advances down over his age
Police in Namayingo is holding an 89-year-old businessman man for shooting dead a 19-year-old woman and her one-year-old child after she denied his sexual advances.
The accused Vinatio Othieno shot dead Beatrice Nekesa, 19, and her one year old child only identified as Ajambo on Sunday morning at his home located in Lwangoshia village in Buyinja Sub County, Namayingo district.
The LC1 chairman Lwangoshia, Peter Owere said the deceased has been a causal laborer at Othieno’s for the past four years.
Owere said Nekesa has always been complaining about her childs poor health as a result of hernia.
Othieno has been living alone for the past five years after his wife reportedly divorced him.
Owere said Nekesa had always been complaining of being sexually harassed by her boss whom she referred to as a ‘grandfather’.
“She claimed the man always fondled her breasts and buttocks while at work” he said.
Owere said locals rushed to the scene after hearing five gun shots only to find Nekesa lying in a pool of blood with her one year child.
“He (Othieno) attempted to escape but was arrested a few meters away by angry people who had surrounded the entire house” he said.
The deceased reportedly arrived at the home of the accused for her daily work at around 11am clutching a bible and moments later locals heard the gunshots.
The police spokesman for East Busoga, James Mubi, said police who arrived at the scene moments later sealed off the entire home, blocking people from accessing it.
Mubi said police recovered five bullet cartridges that had been used and the gun used in the crime at the scene.
According to a police officer attached to Buyinja Central Police Post, Henry Kintu, the accused had earlier requested the Nekesa to marry him since he was now single but she declined saying he was too old.
“The girl always complained that the man was the age of her grandfather and therefore could not marry him” he said.
However the accused while at Namayingo Central Police Station, claimed he accidentally shot the two in a bid to save the child from hernia.
“The mother asked me to point a gun at them as she carried her on her lap and I accidentally shot them” he claimed.
The bodies of the two were by press time still lying at Buyinja Health Center IV awaiting a postmortem.
Mubi said the accused is to soon appear before court to answer charges of murder.
He urged all people holding licensed guns to always take normal safety precautions avoid similar incidents.
Othieno had owned the gun for the past fifty years.
