Three killed, two injured in Mobile money robbery in Mukono

In February, the Police Flying Squad shot dead three armed thugs who were suspected to have been plotting a robbery against mobile money agents at Ndejje-Lubugumu, a Kampala suburb.

Police are hunting for three assailants who killed a mobile money agent and two other people in Nabuti, Mukono District last night.

The attack also left two people injured and are admitted at Mulago Hospital in Kampala.

The deceased include the Mobile Money agent Eve Juliet Nagawa, 29, and Godfrey Awubire a casual labourer. Those who where injured were identified as Ivan Mugalu a bodaboda cyclist who was shot in the abdomen while he was riding and Frank Senoga 28, a local trader in the neighbouring Kame Valley Market.

Incidents of attacks against mobile money agents are becoming increasingly common in Uganda.

In February, the Police Flying Squad shot dead three armed thugs who were suspected to have been plotting a robbery against mobile money agents at Ndejje-Lubugumu, a Kampala suburb.

The spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan Patrick Onyango said Flying Squad trailed the suspects after a tip-off and that after a shootout, in which the thugs were killed, Police recovered three bullets and a sub-machine gun that had earlier been robbed from a Police officer who was guarding a home of a Judge in Naguru, another city suburb.     

Police have warned Mobile Money agents against working late in the night. Police advised that the Mobile money agents should close business at 8:00pm and that should not carry huge sums of money with them after the day's sales.
