Two struck by lightning in Mayuge

The two Grace Bayidye 23 and Ibra Kasolo 35 were hit by lightning as they took shelter in a maize grinding mill building.

Mayuge - Two people in Wante village ,Imanyiro sub county Mayuge district have been rushed to hospital in critical condition after being hit by lightning today May 5.

The in charge casualty ward Iganga main hospital, Doctor James Isabirye says the two are currently in critical condition after developing severe burns on their bodies.

"They are unable to speak and developed some complications after the strike "he added. Isabirye further explained saying the two are likely to take some time before recovering from the severe burns.

The rains that started at around 7.30 am lasted for over three hours and were characterized by hail stones and strong winds.

The LC one chairman Wante village, Jamilu Wante says this is the second incident in less than one week that people are being struck by lightning in the area.

The officer in charge Mayuge central police station, Abdu Nasser Mulimira urged locals to always install lightning conductors on top their roofs to avoid similar incidents.

He also advised locals to always avoid standing under trees while it is raining.
