The move followed NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) decision to maintain the status quo in as far as the Legislature leadership is concerned.

The Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah on Tuesday afternoon dashed to NRM Electoral Commission to express interest in retaining his job in the 10th Parliament.

The move followed NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) decision to maintain the status quo in as far as the Legislature leadership is concerned. He wanted to be the Speaker.

CEC also ordered the party's electoral commission to open up the contest for Deputy Speaker after some NRM lawmakers complained that the period for expressing interest for the office had been short.

Already, MPs Agaba Abbas, Monicah Amoding, Jovah Kamateka, Theodore Ssekikubo, David Bahati and Hamson Obua have already expressed interest in the position of deputy speaker.

The NRM caucus is set to conduct internal polls for the two coveted offices on Thursday morning.
