Former Red Cross boss Michael Nataka has been charged with theft of over sh1b. Nataka appeared before the Anti- Corruption Court Patricia Amogo on Monday.

Nataka was granted bail after depositing sh15m. He also produced four substantial sureties, including two Resident District Commissioners and a senior official in the, all bonded at sh100m (not cash).
He was charged with two counts of abuse of office; contrary to Section 11(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2009.The offences were purportedly committed in 2013.
He is accused of making false declarations in relation to illegal transportation, and later taxation evasion for a motor vehicle using privileges accorded to the humanitarian agency.
The sureties are John Nabende (RDC Pallisa); his uncle, Moses Wamoto (RDC Manafa); his close friend James Mayoka, principal economist in charge of projects at the education and sports ministry.
The fourth surety was Stella Watenyeli, a city businesswoman and proprietor of SMS service Hamwe East Africa Limited.
