Double joy for motor rallying fans as Garuga is re-launched

A double menu awaits fans when the FIM East and Central region Africa Motocross Championship takes off at the Garuga race track, April 30-May 1.

Top rally drivers; Ronald Ssebuguzi, Desh Kananura, Arthur Blick, Christakis Fitidis and Godfey Lubega, Geoffrey Nsamba, Umar Mayanja, Susan Muwonge and Ambrose Byona have been invited to officially launch the 1.3km track, in a battle of the Evo’s and the Subaru’s at the new track.

Stephen Lyazi the Uganda Motocross Club Vice president explained that the drivers will not score any NRC points but will be there to launch the redesigned track.

Clerk of the Course Cedric Buzabo said the drivers will race over a 1.3km track which they will do twice for a total of 2.6km after switching lanes.

In the motocross action team captain Maxime Van Pee expects a clean sweep in all classes when Uganda battles Kenya in the FIM East and Central region Africa Motocross Championship at the Garuga race track, April 30-May 1.

His confidence stems from the preparations that the team has had ahead of the first round of the championships that will also act as the third round of the Mountain Dew National Motocross Championship.

“We are stronger now and only the wet conditions might affect some of our young riders but overall we expect to win all categories,” Maxime told the press at Garuga during a pre-race press conference Tuesday.

“We are going to have a two-day event with the first round on Saturday afternoon before the second and third round on Sunday. We have a strong team in all classes, I feel confident with all the riders and I’m impressed with their recent speeds as they all look extremely very fast, so expect an interesting event; and we hope to be on top at the end of the day,” Maxime said.

Action will have six guest riders from Kenya including their former champion Shivam Vinayak, Ngugi Waweru, Ethan Nyachae, Jet Takoi and Jayden Takoi Takini.
