Mukono Bishops SS ends COPA Coca-Cola long wait

Mukono Bishops SS ended their 23-year wait to appear in the COPA Coca-Cola national finals on Monday.

It was not easy work though. The school that last appeared in the coveted event in 1993 made it the hard way by scrapping through after beating regular contenders Riza Standard College 5-4 in the Mukono region finals.

Both teams tied 1-1 in normal time before dusk reigned over at Mehta Stadium Sunday-pushing the matter to the dreaded penalties shootout on Monday.

Earlier on Sunday, Dynamic SS overcame Buikwe district side Hands of Grace SS 2-1 to seal the first place in the final due in Teso College Aloet in Soroti next month May 14-28.

Despite the defeat Buikwe district side Hands of Grace also sailed through to the national finals for the first time.

Kampala region will be represented by Old Kampala SS, Kibuli SS, Kawempe Muslim SS, St. Mary's Heritage School and Kitebi Light SS.

Defending champions St Mary's SS Kitende will lead the Wakiso region contenders including St. Juliana Gayanza, Standard High and Budo SS.
