Mulindwa comes to Red Eagles rescue

Speaking on the turn-around, Francis Ntalazi, the club chairman said a number of factors including players’ commitment, have seen the Red Eagles improve.

Former FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa is one of prominent individuals out to lift Express FC out of the financial mess the club has been in ever since the current season kicked off.

Express, now third in the Azam Uganda Super League has been struggling to keep their good players and hell nearly broke out at the Wankulukuku side at the end of the first round of the national league when close to 10 players deserted the club. Among those who went was Cranes striker and the league top scorer then, Caeser Okhuti.

But while many thought that was the end of the Red Eagles, fortunes appear to have turned around with the team winning five of their second round games and are mathematically contenders for the 2015/16 league crown.

Speaking on the turn-around, Francis Ntalazi, the club chairman said a number of factors including players' commitment, have seen the Red Eagles improve.

"We have talked to the players and they understood the situation. Also a number of prominent fans have made timely financial and material intervention to supplement on what the executive can provide. That is why we have stability and many individuals have promised support," Ntalazi explained when approached.

Among those pointed out is Vipers SC patron Mulindwa who for long has been known as an Express FC sympathizer. Pastor Samuel Kakande is reported to have contributed cash and food rations to the players, Haji Musa Sewava, former Mengo minister and Kampala Woman MP aspirant Nakiwala Kiyingi and Joseph Kayiwa Nviiri are among those who have come to the club's rescue.

Nakiwala Kiyingi is reported to have promised to mobilise more support from Express leaning politicians and businessmen.

The state of Express FC, one of the historical football clubs in the country, has raised concerns among the local football fraternity. Leading the way was FUFA who called all stakeholders to a round table to find solutions. Another committee, headed by former club chairman Kavuma Kabenge, was set up to mobilise funds. Results from both have not yet been disclosed.
