Unlike other Generals' homes where security is tight, even when the decorated General was not at home, Karuhanga’s home was like any other local’s home

Residents of Kigoma in Nyabubare Sub County in Bushenyi district have described the death of Maj Gen. Levi Karuhanga the chairman of the court martial as a loss to their village, the district and the entire country.

"He always invited us to visit him and hold discussions whenever he was here," said one resident Didas Tugume. "His gate was always open for us especially whenever he came home," Tugume added.

Karuhanga migrated from Buyanja parish in Kyeizooba Sub County in Bushenyi district in 1993 to settle at Kigoma.

Unlike other Generals home where security is tight even when the decorated General is not at home, Karuhanga's home is like any other local's home (as there is no security.)

"He has been a good person to everybody and that is why you don't see any security around," explains Moses Kizibweki who has lived with Karuhanga for over 30 years.

Cyril Ndeebesa another resident describes Karuhanga as an officer who always open and dedicated to his work.

Kizibweki recalls that Karuhanga has been a person who could not eat food anyhow or from anywhere. "We always prepared him food whenever he was here at home."

By this evening, burial was still underway at his ancestral home in Kigoma, Ishaka district on Sunday at 2pm.

The fallen officer who died in Nakasero Hospital on Thursday is survived by a widow and five children. Karuhanga was born in Bushenyi District on February 24, 1956.

He studied at Mwengura Primary School, Kyambogo College, Nasser H Mil Academy, University of Nairobi, Nigeria, Canada, Egypt and Kabamba in Uganda.
