KAMPALA - Ugandan boxers who could not fulfill their Rio Olympic dream will have a chance to showcase their talent at the international level when they take part in the Imperium Cup 2016 in Canada.

The tournament is due May 20-22 at the La Cite du Sport arena in Terrebonne, Quebec.

This is an international Olympic Boxing Tournament organized by Imperium Boxing Club in Canada organized at all Olympic years for boxers who fail to meet the Olympic qualification.

From Uganda, it's Mengo Social Center Boxing Club that has landed the invitation following their bi- lateral relationship with Imperium Boxing Club.

"We have started preparation for the event and hope to take a team of eight boxers, including a lady with two coaches and a team manager," said Mike Kizza, the head coach of Mengo Social Center Boxing Club.

"We have boxers who have been at the national team but lost a slot for the qualification event in Cameroon in March. The invitation has been a solace for our boxers to get international exposure and experience."

Kizza said they are looking for sponsors for the travel and are working with Uganda Boxing Federation and National Council of Sports (NCS) as the tournament has been sanctioned by the Quebec Olympic Boxing Federation.
