Buganda Regional League: Luwero thrash Free Stars

Apr 21, 2016

The opening half was all Free Stars and the visitors registered no shot on goal.

Luwero United FC enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 victory over relegation-threatened Free Stars FC in the Buganda Regional League on Wednesday in Luwero.

Kato Ssali's brace and Meddie Kizza goal brushed aside the visitors.

While the win does not send Luwero to the playoffs, defeat on the other hand worsens Free Stars' relegation woes.

Fifteen minutes into the game, Ssali struck to give the home side the lead when after receiving a pass from Kizza, his loop beat the keeper.

He showed his sharpness in front of goal five minutes later when he capitalized on poor clearance to strike again.

It was again easy work for Free Stars three minutes as Kizza tapped home after some nifty one-two work with Ssali to all but end the game as a contest.

The opening half was all Free Stars and the visitors registered no shot on goal.

Brian Mutesasira and substitute Simon Semakula looked for a consolation for the visitors but found the home keeper in no mood of letting slip.

Later on after the interval, Kizza should have swept home his second with only the keeper to beat, but timely clearance by Oscar Mugabe denied him.

And five minutes to the final whistle, Ssali failed to wrap up a hattrick when he blasted his effort straight at the keeper.

But by that time, the three points were already in the bag.

Reactions

Luwero United head coach Frank Ssebagala praised his players for the good and entertaining game they played. "We have to win when the fans have enjoyed the game too."

Free Stars captain Grace Batte: "We lose games because people don't give in what they have to give in."
