Pastors of the evangelical churches in Uganda have been cautioned against abusing other religions as they preach, saying this discourages non-believers from joining the faith.

The caution was sounded by Pastor Simeon Kayiwa of Namirembe Christian Fellowship on Friday during an award-giving ceremony for Uganda's 25 great bible teachers at Hotel Africana in Kampala.

The awards known as the Kingdom Love Achievements Award were organised by Ugandans in the diaspora together with churches in Uganda.

Pastor Kayiwa who also received an award, said it is not written in the bible that other religions should be abused, instead pastors in churches of Born-again Christians should find ways of winning these people to Christ.

"When you are a Born-again Christian, you are supposed to be an example to others. Why should you start abusing other religions, you are not God to judge others. God does tell us to do that, we should be the people to encourage and unite others not to be preaching evil against them," Kayiwa stressed.

He highlighted that it is also not good for pastors to begin abusing people who annoy them, especially in public instead they should show them that it is not right by settling differences in a Godly manner.

"If someone annoys you, call them and sort things out amicably not to abuse them in public, this is what is discouraging people from coming to church," Kayiwa stressed.

In his speech, Pastor MK. Elly, a senior pastor Kingdom Love Ministries UK, said, often men of God have not been recognised for their works that is why they decided to award them and that this was a way of encouraging them to continue teaching the ward of God without hesitation.

Some of the prominent Bible teachers awarded were Pastor Robert Kayanja of the Miracle Centre Cathedral, Pastor Simeon Kayiwa of Namirembe Christian fellowship, Apostle John Bunjo of Christian Restoration Ministries, Kalerwe, Pastor Steven Senfuma of United Christian Centre, Kasubi and Apostle Alex Mitala, among others.

At the same event, the pastors' wives also received medals for supporting their husbands as they taught the word of God.

In his speech, Pastor Kayanja said rewarding the pastors is a great thing because these are the people whose works are never recognised by many.

He noted that the Born-again faith has come a long way and although it was not easy at the beginning, today it is worth rewarding the men who have made it possible.

He recalled that, in 1986, there were a section of the public that was against Born-again Christians, accusing them of being noisy and making the country untidy with papyrus churches, and it was only President Yoweri Museveni who saved the day by giving them a chance to prove the accusers wrong.

"Today, we are 3.6 million Born-again Christians countrywide, meaning that people now believe what we teach is the truth written in the Bible.
