Govt sets aside sh22bn for hiring extension workers

The sh22bn will help raise the number of extension staff at district and Sub County level to 70%

The government has earmarked sh22bn for the recruitment of extension workers across all districts. 

The commissioner for extension services and skills management in the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Zakayo Muyaka, revealed that so far 30% of the extension workers have been reinstated.

He said that the sh22bn will help raise the number of extension staff at district and Sub County level to 70%.

"We are going to recruit extension workers; district production coordinators who will have other officers to support them. Every sub county will have an animal officer who will be a vet and then an agricultural officer" Muyaka said.

He added that government is confident of achieving the project goals by the end of 2017.
