We have informed Police but it does not matter whether or not they give us permission - FDC

Police has warned Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) not to go ahead with their victory match slated for tomorrow.

Deputy Police spokesperson, Polly Namaye, told New Vision that the move is illegal and contravenes the public order management law.

In a press conference this morning, FDC said they will hold a victory party in Kampala tomorrow — the same day as President Museveni's celebration at Kololo.

According to FDC, the event is slated to take place at Nakivubo Settlement Primary school in Kampala starting 9:00am.

Speaking to journalists at Katonga Road, MP elect for Kawempe South Mubarak Munyangwa, who represented the party, said they had invited embattled Kizza Besigye as the guest of honour.

Asked about whether they had been okayed by police, Munyangwa who was flanked several newly elected city hall councilors said, "We have informed them (Police) but it does not matter whether or not they give us permission. The law only requires us to only inform them."

Namaye added saying, "We are aware of what has been planned and we shall not allow anybody to go ahead with the celebration because it goes against the law."

She said there is no need to hold celebrations because key legal institutions — Electoral Commission and Supreme Court have all declared President Museveni the validly elected president of Uganda.

Electoral Commission declared NRM candidate Museveni winner with 60% of the vote with the runners-up FDC's Besigye getting 35%.
