Stakes high at second Seals league meet

High competition is expected in the 50 and 100m freestyle races where Altona Club’s Abba Mayanja and Aaron Emitu still stand out in the 8 & under category.

Close to 200 swimmers will be in action as the second Seals Swim Club League meet takes off at the Kampala Parents School pool on Saturday.

Records could continue to tumble as was in the first meet in the 68 different race events lined up for the day.

High competition is expected in the 50 and 100m freestyle races where Altona Club's Abba Mayanja and Aaron Emitu still stand out in the 8 & under category.

Christian Musenze and Nicholas Malan in the 10 & under, Alvin Emitu and John Kafumbe in the 13-14 years as well as Alexis Kituuka, Gwen Cattermoul, Ssinzi Nabatanzi, Katrina Ssangalyambogo and Aurelie Duchateau in the girls' categories are expected to fight for points towards the overall positions.

At the last meet Seals Club's Ssinzi Nabatanzi broke Katherine Bowmaker's 100m butterfl y record by 2.75 second on top of improving the 100m backstroke record she set in September last year, in the 11-12 category, by 2.77 seconds.

Anthea Mudanye also improved her record over the 100m butterfly distance in 1.25.49 beating Avice Meya's record by 9.9 seconds. She also improved her 100m breaststroke record by 0.82 seconds.

In the boys category (15&Over) Nuwa Senkebe Serunjogi is still the master of the long races having improved his 800m (9.43.79) and 200m (2.14.43) freestyle records set in February last year by 4.47 and 4.57 seconds respectively.

Ten clubs will be represented in the one-day event including; Altona Swim Club, Dolphins Swim Club, Makerere University, Pirates, Rubaga Girls School, SailFish, Seagulls, Seals Swim Club Kampala, Shark Teens and Silverfin Academy.

Points shall be awarded to the top 6 swimmers in each event and awards based on cumulative points over the 4 meets shall be given out to the top female and male swimmers in each age group category at the fourth league meet in December.
