Buganda Kingdom sports minister Henry Ssekabembe unveiled the development during a press conference at the venue.

"We have chosen that date to ensure there is no congestion and clashing with other activities. It is the first time to have such a competition organised at clan level and we would like to thank the Seals Club and other key partners who have ensured its success," Ssekabembe said

He said the Bika swimming competition was mooted by the Nabagereka who together with Princess Katrina Ssangalyambogo ensured it takes off with the aim of improving youth talent.

"Loving swimming and the kingdom the idea was inevitable. The Bika Swimming competition is a way of embracing our culture and clans by showing our talents. It is also a great way to keep health and fit," Ssangalyambogo stated.

"It is the best way to discover which clan has the best swimmers  and who as the years go by will be able to represent the country at international level,"

Seals Club Chairman Tefiro Serunjogi said over 100 swimmers will feature in the finals following 3 preliminary qualifiers at Kings College Buddo, Kampala Parents and Seeta High School, which have seen over 250 swimmers in action for different clans.

The top 12 swimmers from the preliminaries in every category and gender will compete in the finals.
