Paedophile arrested with 10 year-old 'wife'

After six days of disappearance, 10-year old Janet was on Wednesday found locked up in Keneth Hadiko's house located at Masajja Kibira Zone B, Busaabala road, Wakiso district.
 
Hasifah Kanyange, 60, of the same area, Janet's grandmother, said she had been tipped by neighbours that they had been seeing the girl but always hid.

Kanyage said she doesn't know Janet's mother but the father is her late son, Herbert Ntanzi, who passed on when she was only two years old.
 
Kanyage cares for seven children, among them a disabled boy. She says she sells Muslim veils to earn a living.
 
She narrated: "Last week on Thursday, Janet disappeared from home; I tried looking for her but all in vein. On Saturday, I left for Masaka but when I got back on Tuesday this week, reliable sources told me that they had been seeing Janet but she always hid from them.

I had earlier received information that Kenneth Hadiko aka KK had for long been in love with Janet and had been having sex in secret places.  Because I hadn't caught them red handed I kept quiet.

My other grandchildren also told me Hadiko was in love with Janet and often bought her doughnuts, and at times gave her money.
 
After days passed when without seeing my granddaughter, I decided to inform the area LC I chairperson who mounted a search on Wednesday.

Janet was found locked in Hadiko's small house, lying on his bed, and covered with a blanket.

LC officials led by David Mayanja, the chairman and Wasswa Luwandaga, the defense secretary took her to Tripple B Medical Clinic, Masajja  for examination and results indicated that she had been defiled and had contracted candida,"Kanyage explained.

Janet said she run away from home for fear of being beaten by her grandmother.
 
She said that her little sister Mariam Nava, 8, had reported her that she liked every man that passed by their home which wasn't true.

At 10:00pm, Hadiko found me and he took me to his home. In the house, I found Hadiko's brother Robert Mani, 17, sleeping on the floor.

Hadiko put me on his bed and left. He later got back late in the night and climbed the bed I was sleeping on.

When I woke up and noticed my pants were off. I didn't mind, I just continued sleeping.

I later awoke and found Hadiko sleeping on top of me (defiling me).

I told him I was going to report him but he gave me cassava and told me to keep it a secret.
 
Right now, I have back pain and my private parts are filled with sores."
 
Hadiko,  28, a cobbler, also a primary three dropout who studied at Nigo Primary School, Arua, confessed having defiled the girl.

On interrrogation he said he only knew his her mother's one name, Avako, who lives in Busaabala and sells mats to earn a living.

The LC I Chairman urged parents to take care of their children and called on organizations to give a hand to the old woman who can't manage supporting seven grandchildren.
 
ASP. Ajio Ann, the Kikajjo police post boss said Hadiko is charged with aggravated defilement on case file number SD: Ref: 11/30/03/2016.

She also commended the community for supporting police in fighting crime.
