A 35-year-old woman is currently detained at Iganga central police station for attempting to commit suicide after being divorced by her husband.

Nabirye Naigaga, a resident of CMS village was reportedly divorced by her husband Charles Mutoto, a taxi driver after he discovered she was cheating on him and dirty.

However, Nabirye decided to attempt suicide on Wednesday by throwing herself into a fast moving trailer along the Iganga-Jinja highway. She was restrained by locals who dragged her to Iganga central police station.

Mutoto claims he cannot continue staying with Naigaga because he fears his life is insecure, since he had caught her red-handed committing adultery twice with men inside their home.

He said the first time he thought she would become repentant and stop the habit, but he was shocked to catch her in the act with another man inside his own house and bed.

Mutoto says he had earlier lied to her that he was going to Kampala for a business trip before returning the same day at around midday and caught her in the act.

The district police commander Iganga, Nassibu Nditta said investigations into the matter were still underway.

Nditta said police is keeping the accused in custody for purposes of saving her life.
