'Be nice to the Karimojong grazers'

It is understood the herdsmen requested for permission to graze their animals in Kapelebyong.

Residents of Kapelebyong County in Amuria district have been asked to show hospitality to the Karimojong cattle grazers.

This follows the infiltration of about five groups of pastoralists from the districts of Moroto, Kotido and Abim searching for green pasture and water for their animals in the area.

Jimmy Ben Eriau, the area LC III chairperson, says these groups of Karimojong, through their clan leaders, requested the sub-county and the district authorities to allow them graze their animals in the area since most parts of Karamoja is now hit by a dry spell.

Eriau says the local community members should not cause any alarm, saying the pastoralists are going to be in the area for a short time.

However, he warns the Karimojong cattle grazers not to recklessly allow their animals to eat people's crops anyhow.
