The Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura has warned that no one can threaten the peace and stability the ruling government has established.

Kayihura who rushed to Bundibugyo district following tribal clashes between the Bamba and Bakonjo said that government will continue to play its role of protecting its citizens.

"Help us to identify the wrong elements that are trying to destabilize the existing peace so that we can eliminate them from society" Gen Kayihura said while addressing residents of Busendwa village in Ntotoro Sub County where the attacks started on Tuesday night.

"We have been focusing on the Democratic Republic of Congo hoping that it is where the enemy could come from not knowing that the problem is here" he added.

Kayihura warned the locals most of whom were carrying pangas, spears, bows and arrows against revenge.

"I'm here to ensure that calm returns to this area without any more bloodshed. There is no need for revenge" Kayihura said adding that as security they are going to deploy fully.

Earlier the Rwenzori regional Police spokesperson Lydia Tushabe stated that the attackers could be a militia group.

"We suspect them (attackers) to be a militia group because they are very well trained in their mode of attack" Tushabe said.

"As security we are now treating them as a militia group because their target is to grab guns from the police which we shall not accept to happen" she added.
