The warrant of arrest dated March 16, signed by Munoba, stated that any police officer should arrest Namujju after she failed to comply with earlier court summons

Lwengo District Woman MP elect Cissy Donozia Namujju has been remanded to Masaka Central Prison over forged academic papers ahead of the 2016 elections.

Namujju (NRM) was arrested by police at Najjanankumbi in Kampala on the orders of the Masaka Chief Magistrate, Samuel Munoba on March 21 .

The warrant of arrest dated March 16, signed by Munoba, stated that any police officer should arrest Namujju after she failed to comply with earlier court summons.

Namujju was arraigned in court in Masaka at about midday by plain clothed female police officers.

Prosecution states that Namujju faces two charges of forgery and uttering false documents on December 2, 2015 at the EC offices.

She pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Efforts to seek court bail through Josephat Wasswa and company advocates failed before she was remanded to Masaka prison until March 23.

Namujju argued that she was not aware of the said court summons.

She had presented two surities who included the Kyazanga town council and Lwengo Town council chairpersons, Joseph Lubega and Rashid Mulindwa respectively.

Passing the ruling on her bail application, Munoba said court will on March 23 hear  from the prosecution on whether there is any proof of failure to heed court summons by Namujju.

Namujju broke down as prison warders escorted her away from the court dock.

Namujju defeated her opponents Sarah Nkonge (Independent) and Rose Nantongo (DP) to clinch the Lwengo district Woman MP seat in the 2016 elections.
