Baale reigns supreme at Captain's Prize Golf tourney

Baale drew inspiration from one of his older opponents Dan Kireju, 78 who was playing better than him which forced him to change strategy

Yunus Baale carded 67nett to win the Hima Cement captain's prize golf tournament at the Uganda Golf Club's Kitante course on Saturday.

Playing off handicap 23, Baale beat over 100 golfers to the overall winner's trophy that also came with a 32 inch flat TV screen.

Baale drew inspiration from one of his older opponents Dan Kireju, 78 who was playing better than him which forced him to change strategy.

"I was hitting the ball further but Kireju was scoring better so I had to abandon my three-wood, rescue and four-iron and started using my five-iron and other irons which paid off and I started getting good scores, so I dedicate this win to Mr. Kireju who insipred me to perform well," Baale said after he was crowned by Cement marketing director Allan Ssemakula.

Caroline Namutebi from the ladies category was the other lucky winner on the day taking home similar prizes in the one-day tournament that ushered out Henry Rugamba's two-year term.

Joseph Mawejje (72nett) who was also crowned Kitante Club championship winner on the same night won the men Group A, beating Karanja Karubio and Becca Mwanja by a stroke.

Budding youngster Ibrahim Bagalana (70nett) was the best in Group B which had Arthur Turakira (71nett) and John Mugyezi (72) as first and second runners up respectively.

Dennis Tindyeebwa, David Mugambwa and Kim Il Hoon took the Group C prizes while Raymond Kahingi, Alex Nkuyahaga and Jackson Kavuma were the podium finishers in Group D.

In the ladies category, Gloria Mbaguta (73nett) beat Harriet Kitaka and Eva Magala by one and two strokes respectively to win Group A with Sheilla Kesiime and Alice Kego topping the Group B and C categories.

Peace Muyege, Aidah Khamis, Soon Yeon Hong and Mary Ocheng were the first and second runners up in both categoris

Habib Kisande from Kilembe Golf Club was the guest winner while Fred Wanzala had earlier claimed the biggest share of sh10m for the professionals.
