Government has started works to upgrade Rukunyu Health Center IV in Kamwenge district to a hospital.

This was President Yoweri Museveni's 2011 presidential campaign pledge.

Government this financial year released over sh250m to embark on the project aimed at improving access to health services in the district.

Some of the structures under construction include a general ward, pediatric ward and latrines.

Dr. Archbald Bahizi, the in-charge Rukunyu health centre IV, described the project as a milestone towards improving health in the district.

Dr. Bahizi adds that Baylor, one of the partner health NGOs in the district, is also set to expand the maternity ward.
